Whoever has planned a wedding in the past or witnessed a wedding being planned, knows how stressful it can be. There is so much pressure on the soon-to-be-married couple while they plan their event that is meant to be one of the happiest days of their lives. It’s natural that the bride and groom want everything to be perfect. From a wonderful venue, food, flowers, cake, tablecloths, centerpieces, and music, the list seems to never end. There are, however, people who take the wedding planning to an entirely new level. For instance, this bride who sent out an oddly specific dress code requirement to her guests – based on how much they weigh. Not long after she posted it, the dress code got leaked on Reddit and went viral. The anonymous “bridezilla” began getting slammed by thousands of commenters for her offensive dress code.
Dear Guests
Everything started when this bride-to-be’s Facebook post to her wedding guests was leaked to Reddit. In the post, the bride wrote a long message to the guests of her upcoming destination wedding in Hawaii.
It seems normal for a bride to address her invitees about the plans for her wedding, right? What is less normal is demanding from the guests attending to spend thousands of dollars on a strict and strange dress code.
A Real Bridezilla
We’ve all heard of brides assigning their bridesmaids a specific color or gown to wear. Normally, even if the bridesmaids aren’t enthusiastic about the gowns or colors, they still go along with it to make the bride happy on her big day.
In this case, however, we aren’t talking about being required to wear a frilly over-the-top dress in the bride’s favorite vibrant shade. Here, this real-life bridezilla planned out an entire dress code for all the guests who will be at her wedding and not just the wedding party.
For Visual Purposes
The post began rather innocently, with the bride greeting her future wedding attendees. Then, she announced, “Who’s ready for Hawaii 2019?”. She then went on to tell her future guests that despite the fact that the wedding wasn’t happening for another year and a half, she had an important matter to discuss. This matter was, of course, the dress code.
She wrote that the reason for addressing the matter so far in advance was in order to ensure her attendees will have plenty of time to “find and pick out something nice.” She stated that the reason behind the peculiar and strict dress code was due to the fact that it will create an “incredible visual effect” which is for the “synchronized dance” that was planned for the reception.
Different Categories
The fact that she set up an intense list of clothing guidelines for her guests to follow isn’t the weirdest part. The inappropriate way she chose to go about it is what caused the strong reaction she got online.
She divided the dress code into five categories in the post: women who weigh 100 to 160 lbs, men who weigh 100 to 200 lbs, women who weigh 160 lbs and over, and men who weigh 200 lbs and over. Not only that, but she even assigned a dress code for the kids who will be attending. Instructing your guests on what to wear based on their weight is not only odd but incredibly offensive.
Suede & Velvet Only
The female guests weighing between 100 and 160 lbs were instructed to wear a velvet green sweater with orange suede pants. In addition, they needed to wear Louboutin heels, which cost around $700, just by the way. The bride was sure to emphasize that the women in this supposed category buy red Louboutins only, so that when they “spin and lift” their feet, “the effect will amaze you”. We’re not entirely sure what that actually means.
You might find this hard to believe, but it doesn’t end there. To complete the ridiculously specific look, these guests were expected to wear a scarf. Not just any scarf, but a cashmere designer scarf made by Burberry. A scarf like this can cost a good few hundred dollars.
Purple…Or Else
Onto the men. Male guests who weigh between 100 and 200 lbs were required to wear a different outfit. Their outfit might cost significantly less, but it’s just as oddly detailed.
Their outfit entailed a purple fuzzy jacket – emphasis on the purple, a soda hat, and all-white sneakers. Aside from this, the bride asked these guests to bring some “plain glow sticks” as well.
Decked Out In Black
The next section on the list was for women who weigh 160 lbs and over. For this group, the bride kept things rather simple. She requested they wear only black. A black sweater and black pants. She also mentioned that this outfit can be made of “any material.”
To complete this look, the women need a pair of black heels. We’re not sure if it’s more offensive that the bride made a specific category for women over 160 lbs or the fact that she insisted on them wearing nothing but the color black.
Camouflage For You
Don’t worry, there are even weirder dress code instructions from this bride. The section for the men who weigh 200 lbs and over is just as odd as the rest.
We have absolutely no idea why, but the bride asked for these men to wear an entire camouflage outfit and a pair of black sneakers. All we have to say about this is, why?
Loving Red
The bride made sure to include everyone in the dress code, don’t you worry. The young kids who will be attending the Hawaii wedding were required to wear all red. As in, an outfit that is “red from head to toe.”
To emphasize, the bride then went on to remind the guests that the kids will be the ones who “form the shape of a heart” during the mysterious dance. Because of this, it “needs to be true red, not blood orange.”
Formal Attire
As if the dress code wasn’t enough, the bride felt the need to make it clear that aside from the outfits that were “required” for the dress code, the guests were also expected to bring a change of clothes that were “formal attire” for after the dance.
While the bride doesn’t provide a specific set of instructions for this part, she does remind the guests that the venue is “extremely upscale” meaning that they needed to look their “absolute best.”
$1,000 USD
We know you might think that this whole dress code is some kind of joke. We’re here to tell you that the bride made it very clear at the end of her message just how serious she was.
She politely warned her guests, “If you look like trash, so will we.” After that, she continues to list the proper budget for the attendees to invest in their attire which is “at least $1,000.” She then says, “This wedding is 24k themed for a reason.”
No Whining
The bride seemed to realize that the guests would most likely feel somewhat overwhelmed by the dress code and the amount of money they would need to spend on it.
Because of this, the bride made it clear that there were no excuses not to follow the dress code guidelines since the guests had a “year and a half to get working.” This is, of course, if she still has any guests left after she had sent out this message.
Viral
We have one of the brave guests to thank for leaking this dress code to Reddit. We assume the post was only meant for the people invited to the wedding. However, the post was leaked and it went viral.
It didn’t take long for the post to reach well over 10,000 shared as well as thousands of comments from appalled Reddit users. A lot of commenters slammed the bride for “body shaming” her guests and called her names like “self-centered”. Several people took note of the actual colors that were required in the dress code.
A Sort Of Follow-Up
It didn’t take much time until the bride discovered that one of her guests leaked the dress code. She took to Facebook to post a follow-up message to her invitees. This post was later shared on Reddit.
She wrote with gusto, saying, “I could not be more crushed, betrayed, or saddened…knowing someone went behind my back and made fun of me is one of the worst feelings.” She was certainly not planning on letting the “snitch” get away with it. She warned the culprit, “Boy, will you be paying.”
A Polygraph Party?
After this ordeal, the bride announced to her future wedding guests that she intended on hosting a “polygraph party” in her home. The event was to use her “real polygraph test” which she purchased for “$99 on Amazon” to find out who was guilty of posting her dress code on Reddit.
She assured that the ones who wouldn’t make it to the party would be “presumed guilty.”
Anything Goes
In the bride’s follow-up post, she clarified that if there were people who weren’t happy about the dress code, that is was fine.
All they needed to do was talk to her and if they wouldn’t want to take part in the synchronized dance there were other ways to help. Such as helping the crew “clean up after dinner” or “contribute to the honeymoon”. As the bride stated, “Anything counts.”
