One of the tables she had served during his visit hosted a couple, that was seated nearby. They had remarked on her condition and expressed concern for her health. This was a common affair, and she had become used to clients making such comments, trying always to reassure them that all was well and that she was saving for her little one. Although these remarks were well-intentioned, Courtney was getting tired of having to defend herself again and again.

That being said, Courtney recalls having immensely enjoyed her chat with this specific couple. They offered their congratulations, wishing her the best, conveying a general atmosphere of thoughtful kindness. Her ever-present mistrust of the strange man had her think that he may have been listening in on the conversation she had been enjoying. She could not help but notice him in her peripheral vision. Still ignoring him, she continued in her duties, even if her hackles were up.
