The festival has rules regarding participation – one of which states, “Anyone may be a part of Burning Man. We welcome and respect the stranger. No prerequisites exist for participation in our community.” Burning Man welcomes one and all regardless, as long as you follow the rules. In spite of this welcoming policy, there is an underwhelming representation of certain groups at the festival and we’ll talk about that shortly. You might have guessed which groups will be mentioned…

Furs, I hear you ask? In the desert? Isn’t Burning Man eco-friendly? Yes, yes, and yes. Bring real furs to the desert would be foolish but also quite frowned upon so many creative costumes make use of faux fur or even wild rabbit fur. Burning Man apparently suffers under a problem of wild rabbits and so festival-goers are permitted to catch them for food and clothing. Certainly, you will see some people skinning, gutting, and cooking rabbits, and making strange accessories and garments out of their furs.
