Sarah Hyland - Kidney Dysplasia
"For individuals who are chronically ill or in chronic pain: Have you ever had the experience of doctors not listening to you? If so, how do you avoid tearing their heads off with your bare hands?" Sarah Hyland Tweeted in 2018. The actress has lived with chronic sickness since she was diagnosed with renal dysplasia as a child. The disease arises when the kidney develops improperly in the pregnancy. She underwent her first kidney transplant in 2012, but her body rejected the donor organ. Hyland became depressed and considered suicide as a result. "When a family member gives you a second chance at life, and it fails, it almost feels like it's your fault," she told the magazine Self. "It is not. "But it does." A second transplant in 2017 was more successful, but Hyland still struggles to maintain her weight and muscle mass due to the anti-rejection medicine.

Charlie Sheen - HIV
In 2015, the actor admitted to being HIV positive during an interview. He revealed on NBC's 'Today' show that he had received his diagnosis roughly four years before making the news. Sheen was apparently compelled to come out as the National Enquirer was developing a piece that would have revealed his HIV status, demonstrating that HIV stigma continues to negatively impact those living with HIV today. When Sheen did come out, he said that he was on antiretroviral medicine and was undetectable. Overall, HIV is no longer considered a 'death sentence' as it was many years ago. Today's drugs and therapy can slow the progression of HIV while also protecting the body's immune system.
