The Michael Bay-directed Pearl Harbor is short on historical accuracy in favor of, as critic Roger Ebert famously put it, a love triangle of "stunning banality." This may assist to explain the costume blunder. The women in the film are frequently seen without stockings and baring their legs. This was a major social faux pas back then. Some fans say that this is more historically accurate because nylon was scarce during the war, but we're not prepared to give Bay that much credit.
