Kelly lay flat on her back and the technician rubbed the special gel on her swollen stomach before beginning the inspection. As the technician did the ultrasound, Keely watched his face carefully. She felt fear when his facial expression changed to one of concern. Despite his best efforts to reassure and comfort Kelly, she was certain that something disturbing was showing up on the attached screen. Whatever the technician was seeing, it certainly was not related to normal pregnancy signs.

Trying to Keep Calm

Once the technician finished inspecting Keely's body, he met with the doctor in private to discuss what he had seen. Keely’s doctor requested a second opinion on the ultrasound results from another specialist and she froze in alarm. What was going on in her tummy that suddenly had these doctors so concerned?
