35.Honorable Mention: Virginia – 30.1% Obesity Rate
Virginia is no stranger to the battle against obesity, having suffered greatly for many years with an excessive amount of unhealthily overweight citizens. The Center for Disease Control handed the state $375,000 in 2015 to better help Virginians’ efforts to enjoy healthy food as well as to motivate them to work out more. If you concluded that this mission was all in vain, and that the funds were mostly wasted, you were largely and sadly correct.
34.Nevada – 30.6% Obesity Rate
Nevada is doing its best to cope with its burgeoning rate of cardiovascular disease and diabetes which are byproducts of its rising obesity rate. Like with so many other states doing their best to tackle their respective obesity crises, Nevada’s foundling health policies established to fight obesity have achieved little. That being said, the state passed a rarely seen law that enforces the creation of acceptably healthy school cafeteria menus. We hope that the younger generations will be spared the consequences of unhealthy habits.
