In December of 2015, the two couples sat down together and discussed their plans over dinner. This would turn out to be quite an emotional meal. The situation was understandably stressful for Nicole and Kevin, although, Lianna and her husband were determined to help with the process. After realizing just how troubled the couple was with regard to everything they had already been through, Lianna decided to offer her help and volunteered as a surrogate.

A Painful Conversation

While Nicole braved the conversation to explain her troubles and inability to carry a child, Kevin recalls how Lianna’s parenting approach to her already large family made for a painful emotional reaction: "Lianna goes, 'You know I have five children, Shawn and I want to have maybe one or two more.'" “And [Nicole and I] looked at each other with a puzzled look, like, ‘You have five kids, why would you want any more?'” Understandably, this was hard for Nicole to fathom as she was unable to have even one child of her own.
