On March 7, 1990, Brittany and Abby Hensel were safely delivered to a Carver County hospital in Minnesota. Upon inspection by the doctors to see if the babies were safe and healthy, the doctors were startled to see how strongly the twins had been conjoined, to a level that is rarely witnessed or possible. Their bodies were fused in a way that is called dicephalic parapagus twins, meaning that they share one body which is crowned by two separate heads.

Conjoined twins are not just an extremely rare case, they also suffer a worryingly small chance of living. Out of 189,000 babies born, only one case will be a conjoined one. Now take that already extraordinary low possibility and consider that just 11 percent of conjoined twins will develop into the dicephalic parapagus form. Simply put, the chances of Brittany and Abby even forming on this Earth, let alone being born into healthy and strong joined lives, is nothing short of a miracle.
