39.Honorable Mention: Oregon – 29.4% Obesity Rate

When you think of Oregonians, you generally picture wiry individuals hiking mountains and eating modestly, right? Wrong! Oregon is far fatter than most of its neighboring states and its people struggle with exercise and dieting. Of course, the good people in charge of Oregon are doing their best to convince the population to change their ways, with little success. This is what one Oregon health official had to say about their efforts: ‘We’ve been able to stay pretty flat which was our intention given the resources that we have to address obesity.’

38.Honorable Mention: Arizona – 29.5% Obesity Rate

Tragically, Arizona suffers from a 29.5% obesity rate. But to the state’s credit, the people here have banded together to level the rate, largely thanks to its local government’s heroic efforts. Still, as mentioned before, you are only truly winning when you begin to lighten your population’s BMI. Arizona adores its neighboring country’s cuisine, and the fast-food versions of Mexican fare are not considered the healthiest. Burritos, quesadillas, and fajitas are all gobbled down enthusiastically daily by Arizonians.
