Another word in your Burning Man dictionary is “virgin” – what first-timers are dubbed upon arrival. To enter the festival they must perform a simple ritual: roll in the sand and proclaim loudly “I’m not a virgin anymore” three times. Hugs are plentiful but are a required greeting for first-timers! Throughout the entire weekend they are part of greetings and should that prove insufficient you can always visit the “Hug Deli” to experience more variety!

Can you actually buy anything at Burning Man? Yes, iced coffee! That might seem worrying but don’t fret. Specific camps are set up for the purpose of trading and there you can go about your haggling and bargaining with fellow festival-goers. Sharing and caring are part of the festival’s core foundations and so attendees are more than willing to participate. That does not mean that you should not keep your wits about you, as no one likes being ripped off.
